The findings of the 2017 Responsible Investment Benchmark Report reinforce that “a responsible approach to investment – one that systematically considers environment, social and governance (ESG) and/or ethical factors across the entire portfolio – is the expected minimum standard of good investment practice in Australia.”

The market for responsible investment in Australia continues to grow, with an increasing number of Australians seeking to align their investments with their values, reaping the rewards with strong financial performance. The Report’s findings highlight that ‘core’ responsibly invested Australian share funds and balanced multi-sector funds are continuing to outperform their equivalent mainstream funds over three, five and 10-year horizons.

Lendlease Investment Management was recognised as a leading asset manager in the Report, noted for its broad approach ESG implementation. Managing Director of Lendlease’s Australian Investment Management business, Josh McHutchison, said the business unit welcomed the recognition: “We are delighted to have achieved this recognition from the RIAA.”

“Achieving safety, sustainability and diversity outcomes can deliver long-term value for our investment partners, the environment and our communities, and we utilise a robust framework in defining our approach to responsible property investment.”

All funds currently managed by Lendlease Investment Management have a responsible investment strategy in place and ESG factors form an integral part of the management process of each fund’s property portfolios. With nearly half of Australia’s assets under management now being invested through some form of responsible investment strategy, our commitment to responsibly invested capital is an increasingly important means by which we can continue to deliver long-term value to our investment partners.
