Lend Lease has built a broad range of expertise in retail developments all around the world. It’s a sector where we’ve proven our end-to-end capabilities, from the design and development of flagship leisure destinations, right through to the management of a range of retail assets.
In Australia, we have extensive experience in designing, developing, constructing, and managing retail centres. Our retail portfolio is valued at almost $5 billion, and more than 100 million people a year visit one of our centres.
In Asia we’ve delivered a number of flagship retail projects, from Suria KLCC in Malaysia to 313@Somerset in Singapore and Taipei 101 in Taiwan. While in the UK, we build as well as operate and own retail centres, including iconic developments such as Bluewater in Kent. And in Spain our retail portfolio includes Barcelona’s Arenas Plaza, which was converted from a 19th century bullfighting ring. Our retail expertise is also highly valued across the Americas, where we’ve provided consulting services for millions of dollars of construction work.
We understand the intricacies of every retail challenge and are committed to the best possible outcome for all stakeholders, during every phase of development. We also have the expertise to carry out multi-site programs for retailers, allowing our clients to capitalise on the benefits of managing a group of projects as one program.
Lend Lease developed and continues to manage Caneland Central, one of Australia’s most successful shopping centres. We were also responsible for a $230 million extension, which expanded the centre from 39,000 square metres to 65,000 square metres. The expansion incorporated new retailers, a new 750 seat food court and alfresco dining strip, new fashion and lifestyle malls and additional parking for more than 1,000 cars. Learn more
In conjunction with Malaysian property developer SP Setia, we’re developing Setia City Mall as a fun, mid-market family shopping centre with expansive green spaces. Spanning approximately 65,000 square metres, the completed mall will feature 22 major retailers and 230 specialty stores across four levels. Learn more
Merril Lynch - Pegasus hired Lend Lease as their Client Representative for their new shopping mall, developed in the Tortuguitas District, Province of Buenos Aires. Locally, the mall is often referred to as Tortugas Open Mall (TOM). Learn more
We provided construction management services to redevelop the 19th bullring Las Arenas into a major mixed-use leisure and entertainment complex. Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners were the architects for the redevelopment, which retained and refurbished the historic façade while creating approximately 47,000 square metres of mixed activities and a 1,250-space car park in the new interior. The new complex comprises commercial, entertainment, health and leisure spaces, a central event space with multiplex cinemas, a gym and rock museum. A separate adjacent building – the ‘Eforum’ – with retail, restaurant and office space was also constructed.
Lend Lease developed, funded and constructed the Bluewater retail centre and continues to provide ongoing property and asset management services. Considered Europe's leading retail and leisure destination, Bluewater incorporates more than 300 retail outlets, as well as cafés, bars and restaurants, more than 10,000 parking spaces, 50 acres of parkland and seven lakes.
