Adding Up
Summary
The very nature of our work has a huge impact on the world. The built environment is currently responsible for more than 40 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. It generates millions of tonnes of waste each year and uses a large percentage of the earth's diminishing natural resources.
At Lend Lease, we recognise that the property industry's profligate use of carbon cannot continue. Reducing our impact is a top priority across all of our business operations. To this end, we have started to measure and report our performance so that we can better understand our impacts and the mitigating steps we can take to become the fully sustainable company we want to be.
Our framework for measuring performance is structured around three key sustainability objectives: sustainable growth for our people contributing to the future health and prosperity of our planet and profits with responsibility.
We use a number of indicators to assess our performance, including public benchmarks, ratings and other comparisons provided by independent agencies including:
In 2007, we introduced a number of Key Performance Indicators across our organisation to connect our day-to-day business operations with our sustainability aspirations. Tracking our progress helps to engage our stakeholders and motivates them to play their part in making Lend Lease more sustainable. We believe it's our roadmap to change.
