Summary
When Dick Dusseldorp founded Lend Lease in 1958, his vision was to create a company that focussed not only on producing profit for its shareholders but on a much broader agenda, which encompassed respect for employees, engagement with the community and a sense of responsibility for the future health of the environment. His vision stemmed from a fundamental belief that successful companies should operate both profitably and ethically.
Fifty years on, we are committed to operating to the highest corporate governance and ethical standards around the world. We recognise that our business is part of the wider community, and we strive to engage in meaningful work that improves the quality of people's lives.
Sustainability has always been an integral part of our culture. Today it is a central part of our core business strategy.
We have people in dedicated roles addressing environment, health and safety, diversity, knowledge, learning and employee development, both in our businesses and in our global corporate group. They advise our decision-making processes, raise our awareness, monitor our progress and ensure that we remain efficient, accountable and transparent.
We are working towards social, environmental and economic aspirations, and our businesses have established ambitious targets against which we are measuring and reporting the performance of the organisation and its leaders, particularly in environment and health and safety.
As one of the first property companies to acknowledge the threat of climate change, we are fully committed to radical and widespread change across our organisation and the real estate and construction sector more broadly. Because the challenges facing our planet and our society are so great, we are calling for action from government, industry, innovative businesses and our partners.
We are advocating for new legislation, policies, thinking, products, technologies and partnerships so that we can leave a positive legacy for generations to come.
