"By applying the United Nation's Principles for Responsible Investment, we create long-term business value for our investment partners throughout Asia and align the objectives of our investors with those of society at large."
Ooi Eng-Peng, Chief Executive Officer, Lend Lease Investment Management Asia
Lend Lease Investment Management Asia works collaboratively with a wide range of clients throughout the region, including insurance companies and superannuation funds.
We aim to play an active and responsible role in society, by promoting and developing the links between the environment, society, good corporate governance and financial performance.
Our aim is to incorporate sustainability into everything we do. We recently joined forces with Bovis Lend Lease and Lend Lease Retail Asia to form the Asia Sustainability Project Control Group, to better understand and promote sustainable development in our region.
Snapshot
Sustainability requires holistic thinking. That's why we are committed to developing an integrated approach to sustainable development across all our projects in Asia.
At the beginning of 2008, we formed the Asia Sustainability Project Control Group with Bovis Lend Lease Asia and Lend Lease Retail Asia so that we could share knowledge, promote innovation and industry best practice and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our business across the region.
The Asia Sustainability Project Control Group has established three focus areas: Our People "Green Office", Our People "Walking the Talk" and Our People "Transfer of Knowledge". These areas are aimed at engaging staff in the continual development of an innovative, sustainable and integrated workplace and project delivery platform.
Somerset Central, located in Singapore's busiest shopping precinct on Orchard Road, is a shining example of a project that has benefitted enormously from an integrated approach to business.
Somerset Central recently earned the distinction of a Green Mark Platinum Award from the Building Construction Authority. It's the highest sustainability recognition in Singapore, and Somerset Central is the only shopping centre to receive such an award in 2008. It has also qualified for the Green Mark Incentive Scheme and will qualify for two 50 percent cash disbursements if it achieves all of its sustainability initiatives.
When it opens in 2010, Somerset Central will achieve more with less, by using recycled materials throughout. It will implement new standards of efficiencies that will contribute to a 30 percent reduction in energy consumption compared to code-compliant buildings. It will generate renewable energy on-site. It will also provide a detailed carbon footprint analysis and reduction strategy, store thermal energy and recover waste heat for use within the centre.
We recently gave a presentation on Somerset Central to more than 450 people at a Green Mark Platinum Seminar. It was our first opportunity to share the project's sustainability initiatives with our peers in the region. We hope it will act as a catalyst for industry change, encouraging others to adopt the technological advances that we have made and encouraging further innovation in sustainability performance.
