Lend Lease Global Head of Sustainability, Maria Atkinson, has been honoured for her work in driving green building and broader sustainability agendas by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
The USGBC has awarded Maria a USGBC Leadership Award in the Advocacy category - making her the first individual winner in the category.
The award was presented at the USGBC's annual industry event, Greenbuild, in Denver, Colorado.
"This award recognizes Maria's exceptional vision, leadership, and commitment to the evolution of green building design and construction across the company, as well as her work to drive the integration of environmental, social, and economic goals across the business," said Ross Taylor, Global CEO Retail and Communities.
The annual USGBC Leadership Awards recognise outstanding leadership, vision and commitment to green building by individuals and organizations.
The Advocacy category was first presented in 2005, when it was awarded to the Global Green USA organisation, the US affiliate of Green Cross International, President Mikhail Gorbachev's international environmental movement.
Lend Lease has been a member of the US Green Building Council since 1998 and is committed to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System. More than 250 US employees are LEED accredited and 27 Lend Lease developed, constructed, managed or owned buildings are LEED certified. Bovis Lend Lease managed construction of 111 South Wacker in Chicago, the first US building to attain LEEDCS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Core and Shell) Gold Level certification.
