Our Contribution
Summary
Within each of us lies the need to lead a meaningful life, to be of use and to be valued by those around us. It's this need that propels us to make choices that will bring the most satisfaction from life.
We recognise that as a company, we grow by growing our people. Our contribution to society places particular emphasis on recognising and responding to the things that matter to our people, both as individuals and as teams.
When we asked our employees, they told us that making a sustainable difference to people's lives was high on their list of priorities and that we should channel our expertise and resources to do so.
We are proud to support our staff in a wide range of volunteering efforts around the world. Bringing positive change to the lives of young people has always been particularly close to our heart, which is why Dick Dusseldorp established a youth skills, training and development enterprise on his retirement.
We seek to nurture a continuous learning culture, to encourage our staff to improve their professional competencies and to be proactive in their personal development. Lend Lease's Foundation offers a wide spectrum of immensely rewarding personal development programmes that encapsulate our commitment to inspire, challenge and engage.
Through our inspirational programme Reading Friends, we are playing a role in the improvement of literacy levels at a local primary school near our corporate headquarters in Sydney, as well as inspiring a love of reading. And further afield at Baan Had Ngiew School in Thailand, our people volunteered their time and practical know-how to deliver basic sanitation and running water to the school community.
Volunteering efforts such as these help us to forge stronger connections to our communities and deliver enduring value and mutual benefit to all our stakeholders.
Wherever we are in the world, we want to bring positive change to our local communities. Lend Lease's Foundation facilitates a number of programs giving employees the opportunity to contribute to communities, both financially and through volunteering. Around the world Community Day—our annual volunteering day—has had such a profound effect: from building cubby houses for children in need, to participating in coastal clean-ups, to building vegetable gardens, to providing meals for homeless people, to undertaking maintenance for a refugee resource centre.
Our Lend Lease Community Grants are designed to support and complement employee-driven community projects and grassroots community initiatives.
We believe that these community-focused programmes are enriching for both our employees and our communities. Our employees feel pride, loyalty and a strong sense of fulfillment from enhancing the quality of life within our communities. And our communities feel an increased rapport and understanding, as well as enjoying the resources and benefits that flow through our relationship.
As a leading global property group, our contribution to local communities extends way beyond the iconic buildings we create and build. Throughout our history, concern for, and pride in, the impact we have on the communities in which we operate has been a hallmark of the way we do business.
Every action adds up. We are proud to build on the momentum of the past 50 years and improve the quality of people's lives, both now and in the future.
