Our Influence
Summary
For Lend Lease, sustainable supply chain management is critical if we are to identify and mitigate potential environmental and human impacts along our supply lines. It is also through this influence that we create efficiencies and effect significant change.
We have established a Global Working Group to work closely with our suppliers and contractors to ensure that social, ethical and environmental considerations are met on all of our developments and initiatives globally.
We know we must deliver our buildings in a responsible manner throughout their lifecycle, which is why we are putting sustainability at the heart of our procurement process.
The earth's limited natural resources are dwindling. We are increasingly sourcing raw materials, such as timber, from sustainable suppliers and using new products that are better for the environment.
A cradle-to-grave design dominates modern manufacturing, and many products are designed with built-in obsolescence. We are looking to recycled materials so that future generations are enriched by what we build, not tyrannised by our hazards or waste.
We expect our suppliers to have a demonstrable environmental management system, and we assess the environmental performance of their products and services during our selection process. To this end, we strive to recognise and fairly reward suppliers for their compliance.
Across our business operations, we are working hard to reduce our direct greenhouse gas emissions. By engaging our supply chain in the process, we encourage suppliers to measure and manage their emissions, so that ultimately we can reduce the total carbon footprint of our indirect emissions too.
We are putting tools in place, such as BuildingConfidence, to build a robust sustainable supply chain management discipline. They include checklists, self-assessment tools and standards along the value chain to monitor and verify that we are meeting our social and environmental requirements.
In light of the global skills shortage, we are also focussed on developing a more sustainable supply of labour for our industry. Our UK business has created an innovative employment and training model, BeOnsite, which is providing skills, training and job placement for the long-term unemployed.
We seek to be a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact. To this end, we are committed to aligning our operations and strategies across our supply lines with 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
The relationship between Lend Lease and our supply chain is an evolving one. Through leadership, collaboration and responsibility, we aim to play a more active and responsible role in reducing our impacts and promoting quality of life wherever we have a presence.
