Smarter Systems
Summary
For more than 50 years, the Lend Lease name has been synonymous with innovation and creativity.
Our culture is collaborative and forward thinking, and we pride ourselves on combining local knowledge with global expertise to
create long-term sustainable solutions for the built environment.
But the world is changing, and social justice and climate change are two of the greatest challenges the world has ever faced. Change on this scale has never happened so quickly, which is why we need an integrated approach if we are to continue to contribute to sustainable development.
How does a company like Lend Lease, with our long and distinguished history, our vast infrastructure and our large number of employees used to certain ways of doing things, begin to retool our thinking and change our processes?
How do we shift to new materials, technologies and new ways of operating? And how do we report meaningfully on environmental, economic and social impacts, measuring our performance against targets so that we can connect our policies to our actions?
The answer is to think holistically about sustainability. To do this, we must integrate it into every aspect of our business strategy, planning and operation, by deploying proven processes, shared information systems and industry best practices. And we must support them by applying common operating principles and adhering to common social and environmental standards.
Of course, holistic thinking doesn't just happen by chance; it must be designed in. That's why our ability to harness smarter systems to the performance and creativity of our people is so important.
At Lend Lease, information is not just a by-product of our business but a key asset. Smarter systems—such as Insight, our Management and Reporting Tool, and Webcare, our Health and Safety performance tool—enable us to readily access, update and verify our metrics so that we can better assess our performance across our operations.
These tools allow us to track the sum of the parts, rather than the traditional evaluation of one metric at a time, such as profit. By analysing the whole suite of metrics, we can readily identify and mitigate risks, stay on top of emerging trends, and deliver sustained value to our stakeholders.
Smarter systems help to streamline our business by providing faster capture of information and increased transparency across our organisation—all of which contribute to greater business efficiency and making informed decisions.
Our work touches on many different projects around the world. By thinking holistically, we aspire to be a leader of change wherever we have a presence.
