Smarter Systems
Summary
For more than 50 years, the Lend Lease name has been synonymous with innovation and creativity.
Our culture is collaborative and forward thinking, and we pride ourselves on combining local knowledge with global expertise to
create long-term sustainable solutions for the built environment.
But the world is changing, and social justice and climate change are two of the greatest challenges the world has ever faced. Change on this scale has never happened so quickly, which is why we need an integrated approach if we are to continue to
work towards becoming a sustainable leader.
How does a company like Lend Lease, with our long and distinguished history, our vast infrastructure and our large number of employees used to certain ways of doing things, begin to retool our thinking and develop our business processes?
How do we shift to new materials, technologies and new ways of operating? And how do we report meaningfully on environmental, economic and social impacts, measuring our performance against targets so that we can connect our policies to our actions?
The answer is to be holistic in the way we approach sustainability. To do this, we must understand and then integrate actions towards becoming sustainable into every aspect of our business strategy, planning and operation.
The development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has enabled us to create smarter systems that engineer business processes to consolidate disparate technologies, connect information sources and provide the capability to focus on data analysis and performance reporting.
Of course, the ability to be holistic doesn't just happen by chance; it needs to be designed into all business activities. That's why our ability to harness smarter systems to aid and support the performance and creativity of our people is so important.
At Lend Lease, information is not just a by-product of our business but a key asset. Smarter systems—such as Insight, our Management and Reporting Tool —enable us to readily access, update and verify data and information so that we can better assess our performance across our operations.
Our approach allows us to track the sum of the parts, rather than the traditional evaluation of one performance indicator at a time, such as profit. By analysing a suite of performance indicators, we can readily identify and mitigate risks, stay on top of emerging trends, and deliver sustained value to our stakeholders.
Smarter systems help to streamline our business by providing automated and faster capture of information, with increased transparency across our organisation—all of which contribute to greater business efficiency and the ability to make informed decisions.
Our work touches on many different projects around the world. By thinking holistically, we aspire to be a leader of change wherever we have a presence.
