Lendlease’s Group CEO and Managing Director, Steve McCann has joined other Australian business leaders in signing an open letter in support of marriage equality.

The joint letter was delivered to the Prime Minister’s Office by the Equality Campaign who are urging Australian politicians to hold a parliamentary vote to make marriage equality legal.

The letter highlights that delivering civil marriage equality is an important step toward a more inclusive nation: “Globally more than twenty countries have now passed laws to allow same-sex marriage, including the United States of America, New Zealand, Canada and Great Britain and across Australia the number of businesses that support marriage equality continues to grow.”

A report by Crosby | Textor published in August 2016 cited 65 per cent of Australians supported the change.

“Marriage equality will not change anything for the vast majority of Australians, but will make a profound difference to the status and dignity of many.”

Lendlease is a proud supporter of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community. Since 2012, we have been ranked in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) Top 10 employers for LGBTI inclusion and we ensure that our policies and benefits, such as our paid parental leave, are inclusive of same sex families. In 2016, we were awarded the AWEI Platinum status recognising our long-term commitment to LGBTI inclusion in the workplace.

Lendlease is also a Founding member of Pride in Diversity, Australia’s first and only national-not-for-profit employer support program for all aspects of LGBTI workplace inclusion.

“Supporting marriage equality is simply about fairness for everyone to participate in all aspects of life, including marriage,”
said Steve McCann.
