Recent years have shown a significant step-change in both consumers’ and the industry’s standpoints on sustainability. The National Association of Homebuilders highlights that, even with some reservations on cost, over half (51%) of housebuilders expect to be delivering high level green homes by 2020. Meanwhile, the generation of millennials are increasingly stating sustainability as a purchasing driver.

The design, construction and operation of the homes we build are responsible for the consumption of many of our natural resources. We are continually looking at ways to change that and constantly improve standards in sustainable urban living that stand the test of time.  

Futurehome is our latest pioneering concept and a major step in this ongoing ambition. Featuring the world-class build technology of Passivhaus, Futurehome brings ultra-low-energy living to central London and into townhouses which reflect the local Victorian context, with neighbouring character properties set in a conservation area opposite the site. Launching at Elephant Park - our major regeneration project in Elephant & Castle - they will be the first new homes built to Passivhaus standard in London’s Zone One.  
 
To be sustainable is much more than being ‘green’. It is to stand the test of time. For low-energy homes to be truly sustainable, they must combine performance with long-term practicality and desirability. Futurehome aims to bring together the best in class across build, design and location to become even better. These 15 townhouses offer well-connected central London location, time honoured architecture and the proven low-energy build standards of the Passivhaus Institute. They benefit from being integrated into the wider Elephant Park regeneration project, with a new two-acre park on the doorstep and brand new high streets providing shops, restaurants and bars, as well as a thriving social and cultural scene.

Why Passivhaus?  

Arguably the world’s most highly regarded accreditation scheme for ultra-energy-efficient living, Passivhaus standards are among the very best. Its strengths lie in the simplicity of its approach: excellent thermal performance and exceptional airtightness with mechanical ventilation. It is a tried, tested and successful approach to designing and constructing very low-energy buildings, with thousands of examples built over the last 20 years all over Europe and beyond.  
 
The classic townhouse style remains a staple of central London neighbourhoods. Being able to successfully integrate Passivhaus standards in a classic design is a significant milestone for the industry. It overcomes the previous compromise between classic design and advanced energy efficiency; between traditional style homes and superior comfort. 
 
It is also an important milestone for Lendlease. In addition, the learnings of delivering world-class advanced standards are key to keeping us at the forefront of sustainable innovation and development. Our progress is built on 60 years of continually asking how we can do better to create the best places. It is this ambition and tenacity that has led to our track record in social and environmental sustainability, and ultimately, the delivery of the first Passivhaus standard new homes in Zone One London.
