A unique cultural experience

15 Sep 2017

A team of 28 Lendlease employees were honoured to attend this year’s Garma festival in beautiful Yolngu country, in Australia’s Northeast Arnhem Land.

A key goal of our Elevate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is providing Indigenous cultural awareness and engagement learning opportunities for all our employees. This ranges from face-to-face and online cultural awareness sessions, to National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week event celebrations, and cultural immersion opportunities.

To further broaden our employees’ cultural understanding, for the past three years Lendlease has invited a delegation of employees and senior leaders to participate in Garma; Australia’s largest Indigenous cultural exchange event.

Organised by the Yothu Yindi Foundation, the annual Garma festival is attended by around 2,500 people including politicians, Indigenous community leaders, educators, policy makers, health sector representatives, corporates, NGOs and the general public. Garma is a powerful forum for people to come together to discuss, debate and agree ways to improve the future well-being of Indigenous peoples and communities around Australia.
