Lendlease Europe tackles the challenge of low pay experienced by some in the construction industry through Living Wage policy and accreditation

At Lendlease, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and as a business we aim to support fair and just employment. In the UK, we are taking action to address the persistent challenge of low pay experienced by some workers in the construction industry. Our Living Wage policy underpins our commitment to ensuring that our people, and those employed by our supply chain, receive a real living wage and we were proud to see Lendlease Europe achieve accredited Living Wage Employer status in January 2020.   

We welcomed the UK Government’s Build, Build, Build reforms and believe the built environment sector will have a vital role to play in skilling and attracting new talent to build the best places that are fit for the future. The social, economic and well-being benefits of well-paid employment are widely recognised, and this is an integral element of Lendlease’s approach to sustainable development. 

To achieve the accreditation, we had to put in place several measures, including: 
  • Engaging all aspects of the business on development of the new Living Wage policy.
  • Identifying elements of the supply chain that would be directly impacted and establish a process through which they would migrate to paying the Living Wage.
  • Integrating Living Wage compliance into existing quality and assurance systems, processes and procedures.

We believe our Living Wage policy will help demonstrate our unwavering commitment to our people and the communities we work in.
