Lendlease has received a Bronze Employer Award from Stonewall - the UK’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer persons – for our work towards inclusivity in the workplace.
This is a step in the right direction for our business and we’re proud of the progress we’ve already made.
Michael Vavakis, Chief Operating Officer and LGBQT+ Network sponsor at Lendlease, comments: “We’re incredibly proud to be recognised for the work we’re doing as an organisation to ensure our people feel comfortable and confident in bringing their whole selves to work. We know there’s more to do and we’re committed to the continued improvement of our workplaces and culture.”
According to the charity’s research, more than a third of LGBTQ+ staff (35 per cent) hide who they are at work, while one in five (18 per cent) have been the target of negative comments because they’re LGBTQ+.
Liz Ward, Director of Programmes at Stonewall (she/her) said: “We spend so much of our time at work, and our career can be a huge part of how we define ourselves. Every single lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer person should be able to be themselves at work. From understanding how HR policies, such as parental leave, will affect them, to being reassured that they can speak openly about their lives and partners at the coffee machine, the impact of inclusive workplaces can be life-changing.”
This year, as part of the work being done by our LGBTQ+ Network, we’ll be reviewing our results from the Equality Index with Stonewall to refocus our strategy, specifically to address the areas where our business can improve the lives of our employees.
We’re also looking to grow the network, which will involve in-person and digital events with educational and social opportunities, renewed efforts for Pride in London, Manchester and Birmingham and continuing to influence and inform our colleagues using the dedicated ally network.
