Lendlease was appointed as an Overlay Delivery Partner and Official Supporter Property & Infrastructure of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. 

Bringing international experience to the Gold Coast, the Building business project managed the delivery of 15 competition venues across South East Queensland, Townsville and Cairns, into competition grade venues, as well as the overlay to the Athlete’s Village. 

Lendlease Building Chief Executive Officer Dale Connor said the partnership was an exciting opportunity to contribute to Australia’s sporting efforts on the world stage.

“We are a proud Australian company and welcome the opportunity to support our nation as it hosts athletes from all backgrounds to compete and excel on the world stage,” Mr Connor said.

“As a business, there’s an incredibly strong alignment between our two organisations such as our shared commitment to building respectful relationships and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.”

Minister for the Commonwealth Games, Kate Jones, welcomed Lendlease to the Games Family and said the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is the first time a major international sporting event of this scale has committed to a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). 

“Lendlease brings its own Elevate Reconciliation Action Plan to the Games, which complements all that we are doing to promote the spirit of reconciliation through the Games.

“Through the RAP, we have an opportunity for Games partners to deliver real and tangible legacy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, such as employment and training opportunities, and a greater cultural awareness of our unique heritage,” Minister Jones said.  

Lendlease provided planning, programming, logistics and supervision to transform existing facilities into world class competition venues ensuring that both athlete and support experiences the very best the games has to offer.

Lendlease brought great experience to the table, having been involved with a variety of projects for major sporting events including the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, London 2012 Olympics, Sydney 2000 Olympics and the 2002 World Cup venue – Sapporo Dome.
