Name: Adam Konarik
Role: Graduate Site Engineer
Department: Construction

Project: I am currently working on the B316 Curtin Sciences Building

What does your day look like?

Morning

  • I start the day by reviewing emails and assigning tasks, collaborating with the team over coffee, attending meetings to discuss project progress and future plans and engaging with site supervisors to plan construction activities.

  • I also focus on quality assurance and tracking of construction activities including piling, concrete pours and delivery logistics and collaborate with subcontractors to gain insights and ensure smooth operations.

Lunch

Working at a university campus, we have a lot of lunch options and often I will go with team members and grab something on campus. Usually on a Friday the team will grab some lunch together which is a good time to catch up on a more personal level and reflect on the week we have all had. Weekend plans are a popular discussion topic.

Afternoon

  • We are in a busy procurement process now and the afternoons are a great time to dive into this area of our work.

  • Later in the day when the subcontractors are wrapping up on site and the day starts to quieten down a little, I focus on administrative work including reviewing documents, assessing claims and reviewing and writing construction programmes. I find plugging the headphones in helps to keep the productivity high for these later-in-the-day tasks.

  • When I leave work, I like to turn the phone off and focus on myself. I enjoy going to the gym, playing sport with friends, catching up with mates or even just relaxing. I also normally get an episode of whatever show I’m watching in as well!
