Transforming Gurners Lane: A New Melbourne Icon

Tucked away beside Melbourne’s CollinsCollins, Gurners Lane has been given a striking new identity. Thanks to Lendlease’s vision to connect their properties with the local community, the laneway now showcases a breathtaking mural by renowned Melbourne artist Buff Diss.

Using his signature medium of masking tape, Diss has reimagined the laneway as a kinetic, abstract field of contour lines, inspired by Melbourne’s natural landscape and iconic laneways.

The mural, a vibrant interplay of movement and form, has turned Gurners Lane from a nondescript alley into a local landmark. Passersby encounter a unique visual experience that blends art, architecture, and the rich urban tapestry synonymous with Melbourne.

The installation not only enhances the aesthetic of the area but also provides tenant customers of CollinsCollins with a stunning view that fosters a deeper connection to the creative spirit of the city.

“We wanted to do something that would both elevate the experience for our tenants and give back to the Melbourne community,” explains Fabio Ribeiro, Fund Manager at Lendlease. “By commissioning this mural, we’ve turned Gurners Lane into more than just a walkway. It’s a feature that reflects Melbourne’s cultural heartbeat.”

Beyond its artistic value, the Gurners Lane Mural Project represents Lendlease’s broader commitment to giving more to the community. By investing in public art, the project has enriched the local area and created a space where creativity and community converge. The mural is not only a visual enhancement but a symbol of collaboration and cultural investment that invites people to engage with their surroundings in a new way.

The revitalised Gurners Lane demonstrates the transformative power of partnerships between businesses and communities. It shows how thoughtful initiatives can enhance urban spaces, offering something valuable back to the neighbourhoods they inhabit. This laneway has become a living piece of Melbourne’s vibrant soul and a testament to the city’s artistic legacy.
