Lendlease adds the colour platinum to LGBTI rainbow

Lendlease has become Australia’s first property and infrastructure company to achieve the nation’s highest level of recognition for its efforts to truly embrace the contribution of its LGBTI workers.

Lendlease has been named as a Platinum Employer of Choice for LGBTI Inclusion in  the Australian Workplace Equality Index, awarded by Pride in Diversity. The index is  Australia's definitive national benchmark on LGBTI workplace inclusion. 

Lendlease Group Head of Talent and Diversity, Jane Hansen, said: “At Lendlease,  diversity simply means difference – difference in thinking, background, culture, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity and other life experiences. 

 "And research shows that companies that truly embrace diversity in its many forms are, ultimately, more successful.” 

“Our LGBTI engagement campaign, which was rolled out across all states and territories where we have operations, was designed to start conversations about inclusion. 

“Central to the campaign’s success was recognising that not all teams are the same. For example, about 55 per cent of our people work in non-centralised workplaces – including a significant cohort of people in what are traditionally known as blue collar jobs. 

The campaign involved coordinating over 160 team events led by local managers and LGBTI allies. As well as providing managers with information to deliver consistent and clear messaging on LGBTI inclusion, other tools included online LGBTI awareness training (Red Cross) and a series of ‘Out Lendlease leader’ videos. 

“During the past eight years, Lendlease has come such a long way in LGBTI inclusion and we’re delighted to have been recognised for our achievements with this award, Ms Hansen said. 

“It provides us with additional motivation to push forward and champion LGBTI inclusion across our industry and beyond.”
