Lendlease commemorates its 50th anniversary in Singapore by giving back to the community through a series of initiatives and partnerships
- 7 Jul 2023
SINGAPORE, 7 July 2023 – Lendlease marks its 50th anniversary celebrations in Singapore with the official launch of its partnership with Singapore Street Festival (SSF) 2023 on 7 July at Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ), themed ‘The NXT Generation’.
As part of the kick-off, winning paintings from the Street Art competition centered around Lendlease’s 50 years in Singapore with the theme “Build on our 50 (years) for the next 50” were introduced by the artists. They will be exhibited across three Lendlease malls namely Jem, Parkway Parade and Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ) between 7 July to 13 August.
Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry, who graced the launch event as the Guest-of-Honour, said, “We welcome the physical return of the Singapore Street Festival which kicks off in Paya Lebar Quarter today after a three-year hiatus. Held in conjunction with Festival partner Lendlease’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, the event promises an exciting showcase of young talents and performers. The Festival provides young people with a platform and opportunities to express themselves through the arts, culture and sports. This creative expression enhances the healthy formation of their identity and journey of self-discovery that contributes to their mental and physical wellbeing.”
The SSF takes place from 7 July to 13 August across Lendlease’s four malls: 313@somerset, Jem, Parkway Parade, and PLQ. Programme highlights include the Asia Global Belly Dance competition, the Singapore Yo-Yo competition, one-on-one street soccer competition as well as busking acts1 across the malls.
Ms Ng Hsueh Ling, Managing Director (Singapore), Lendlease and Chairperson, Lendlease Global Commercial Trust Management, said, “At Lendlease, we aim to create places where communities thrive. This partnership with Singapore Street Festival provides a platform for our local youth and artists to express themselves creatively. There’s no better way to mark Lendlease 50 years of presence and placemaking in Singapore than to give back to the community that has supported us."
Ms Annie Pek, Founder & Director of SSF, said, "SSF is privileged and happy to partner with Lendlease to provide new platforms for youths in Singapore to express themselves creatively. SSF seeks to forge new bonds, engage the community and support the passions and dreams of youths. We hope this platform will inspire youths to come forward to showcase their talents and uplift the local arts scene."
On top of art exhibitions and performances from the SSF, shoppers can also look forward to five weeks of attractive deals and exclusives2 from 7 July to 13 August across all four Lendlease malls. Lendlease Plus3 members can also stand a chance to win exciting rewards during this period! More information is available in Appendix A.
Empowering communities
Lendlease's commitment to giving back to the community goes beyond just the SSF and is reflected through various initiatives that hope to make a positive impact on the lives of Singaporeans. Lendlease seeks to build a stronger and more sustainable community for all with other 50th anniversary initiatives as follows:
- Company of Good
As a Company of Good4 registered with the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), Lendlease Global Commercial REIT (“LREIT”) and Lendlease have gifted a total sum of S$25,000 to support 50 Community Link (ComLink) families who live in rental housing in Jurong West.
- Lendlease Foundation Community Grant Asia
The Lendlease Foundation Community Grant Asia is a programme that supports local community-based organisations, charities and social enterprises working on community development and climate change action in Malaysia and Singapore, which is complemented by Lendlease’s Sustainability Framework5.
The grant awards $20,000 in local currency to selected organisations and provides volunteering opportunities for Lendlease employees. This year, seven projects were awarded with three in Singapore and four in Malaysia.
- Employee-led Initiatives
To mark Lendlease’s 50th year in Singapore, employees have been doing their part to make a difference through community outreach programs. One such notable programme is a beach cleanup for Lendlease’s Community Day, which has been planned for September. The goal is to clean up 500kg of trash and arrange for their recycling.
In partnership with Dignity Kitchen to support and provide gainful employment and job opportunities for the differently-abled, LREIT will bake and deliver a total of 500 muffins for beneficiaries. 100 muffins have already been distributed to AWWA School and Care Corner Student Care Centre Woodlands for children while the remaining 400 muffins will be distributed to the public at National Neuroscience Institute’s upcoming charity race finale at PLQ.
Mr Justin Gabbani, Chief Executive Officer, Asia, Lendlease said, “This milestone 50th anniversary is a reminder of our commitment to continue contributing to Singapore’s landscape and development. We will build upon our expertise in investment, development and construction, most notably in the life sciences, commercial and retail spaces, and to continue leading the charge in sustainability, technology, and best practices for the built environment for decades to come.”
