Lendlease creates more than $280 million of social value globally
- 26 Jun 2025
Sydney, 26 June 2025: Lendlease has exceeded its ambitious social value target by 13 per cent, creating more than $280 million of social value globally in five years.
In 2020, Lendlease launched its industry-leading target to create $250 million of social value by 2025 through the work of shared value partnerships and programs, funded by the Lendlease Foundation.
Social value is created when an activity makes a positive impact on an individual’s quality of life or improves the resilience of a community. Social value is measured by placing a monetary value on the positive change people experience through a program or initiative.
Since the target launch, more than 500 unique social outcomes have been delivered across eight countries, including improved employability, increased educational opportunities, enhanced First Nations connection to community and increased awareness of environmental impacts.
Over the five years of the target, Lendlease has worked with more than 50 non-profits, charities, community groups and social enterprises to support over 250,000 people. Each of these partners and programs have been assessed and verified annually by independent social impact consultants, Social Impax and Think Impact.
Around 13,000 volunteer opportunities have been supported by Lendlease employees globally, including its annual Community Day initiative.
One long-term partnership has been with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF). This partnership, which has created $48.4m of social value since 2020, has supported GBRF’s Reef Islands Initiative, working towards restoring native vegetation and species, protecting sea life and engaging traditional owners in caring for country practices.
Other significant shared value partnerships have included the Australian Red Cross, OzHarvest, Programma2121 in Italy, BeOnsite in the UK, Projek Komuniti Kita in Malaysia, Project Dignity in Singapore and United Suicide Survivors International and LivingWorks in the United States.
Lendlease Foundation will continue to support charities and not-for-profit organisations in their important work and find opportunities for Lendlease people to get involved through volunteering.
“At Lendlease, we’ve always been motivated by the idea that we can make a positive contribution to society through our work.
“We decided to take this one step further in 2020 by setting an ambitious target that would bring the social focus areas in our Sustainability Framework to life. This was done with the aim of tracking and measuring the impact programs and initiatives we supported, while also giving our employees a chance to be involved in ways that were meaningful for them through volunteering.
“The $280 million in social value created is not the end of our efforts. We will continue to partner with non-profits with the shared goal of creating real value and helping to shift the industry narrative from pure philanthropy to social value creation.”
