This September, The Streets of Barangaroo partnered with Sydney Fringe Festival to deliver a dynamic and colourful celebration of arts and culture. As part of the festival’s ‘Paint The Town Pink’ campaign, Barangaroo was transformed into a hub of creativity and connection, with retailers and performers coming together to offer unique experiences for visitors.
Painting the town pink
The Streets of Barangaroo retailers embraced the cheeky spirit of Sydney Fringe, crafting pink-themed offerings to entice customers to spend an evening at Barangaroo. From bespoke drinks to decadent desserts– there was something to suit the tastebuds of every customer who came to experience the lively atmosphere. NOLA Smokehouse and Bar created a series of pink cocktails and desserts, with Torotoro Ramen Bar serving up their Sakura Blossom and Strawberries and Cream concoctions.
Customers also flocked to Lotus for the Sunset Sipper cocktail and Bottega Coco’s Cloudberry Bliss dessert. Ume Burger offered festival-exclusive deals, while Spiced by Billus and Wild Sage wowed with pink-themed menus. Even Phonetabulous got in on the action, offering a generous 50% off all pink items for Fringe-goers.
As part of the ‘SHOW US YOUR TIX’ initiative, customers who flashed their Sydney Fringe Festival tickets unlocked exclusive discounts across participating stores, creating an exciting buzz that the community wholeheartedly embraced. Deals included a 10% discount at Sydney Barbers, TITLE, and Costi’s Fish and Chips, as well as a free screen protector from Phonetabulous. This partnership highlighted the power of collaboration, fostering a sense of unity and celebration among retailers, visitors, and the wider community.
Artistic activations inspire and engage
Sydney Fringe Festival, the state’s largest independent arts event, is renowned for its unique and provocative activations. This year’s theme of ‘ritual’ took centre stage, inspiring moments of connection and reflection throughout Barangaroo.
Standout experiences included Two Strangers Walk Into a Bar, an immersive audio-guided installation held at Bottega Coco. Designed by creator Tilda Cobham-Hervey, the activation invited participants to share observations and stories with strangers, transforming moments of awkward curiosity into genuine connection.
Complementing this was Dear Stranger, a reflective letter-writing experience, and Friday Ritual, artist Matthew Aberline’s wind-sculpted installations, which drew significant attention in the International Towers Lobby and created a visually striking focal point that resonated with the festival’s theme of ‘ritual.’
