On the 6th April, the efforts by the NSW Government and Darling Harbour Live consortium – including Hostplus, First State Super, Capella Capital (Lendlease’s financial infrastructure services business), AEG Ogden and Spotless, FM – were recognised through this outstanding achievement.
“The new convention centre transforms Sydney and equips Australia to compete with Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore for the lucrative convention dollar,” said Infrastructure Partnerships Australia Chief Executive, Brendan Lyon.
“This was judged the best infrastructure project because of its excellent design, prudent construction and outstanding financial performance, all while delivering the nation a new and emblematic piece of tourism infrastructure.”
The ICC Sydney is a leading combined exhibition, convention and entertainment precinct in the Asia Pacific, and was successfully delivered on budget, and ahead of schedule. It represents the 20-hectare transformation of one of Sydney’s most famous water-front destinations.
“We are thrilled to have won Best Infrastructure Project at Infrastructure Australia’s National Infrastructure Awards for International Convention Centre Sydney. The Darling Harbour Live consortium is proud to have delivered this world class project on behalf of the NSW State Government, and are thankful for the opportunity to partner with the government to revitalise Darling Harbour for the people of Sydney.
“Every person involved in this significant project should be proud of this award win, and the part they’ve played in creating a great place that locals and tourists will enjoy for generations to come,” said Malcom Macintyre, Director, Capella Capital.
The International Convention Centre Sydney also recently achieve an Audio Visual milestone.
Peter Swanson, Head of Audio Visual Practice for Lendlease Technology said our Technology and Building business units worked collaboratively to ensure a successful outcome for a highly sophisticated, ICT network-dependent AV design.
“Team members worked closely with the Building team to manage and coordinate the work by Fredon AV and the 22 other Technology package providers on the project.
“Fredon recognised this partnership a critical to the project’s success and our learnings during the project created a foundation for future establishment of an AV Practice within Lendlease Technology.
“It is clear that our clients now regard AV as an essential building component and our ability to provide in-house expertise sets us apart from the competition,” said Peter.

Rob Deck, Executive Project Director of Darling Harbour Live at the time said, “Looking around today, at the families enjoying the new and improved Darling Harbour, I feel privileged that Lendlease has played a part in bringing one of Australia’s best places back to life.
I’d like to thank the whole team involved in creating these fantastic venues, parks and water-play areas at Darling Harbour. There were many complex engineering challenges but the team’s skill and dedication has ensured these venues were delivered safely.”
