Spot the signs for healthy minds

One in four people will experience a mental illness at some stage in their lifetime. That’s why we all have a role to play in creating mentally healthy workplaces.

Globally, growing evidence suggests males working in the construction industry are one of the highest occupational risk groups for suicide.

It’s an area close to our heart and why we have set up training programs with our partners to address mental health, including MATES in Construction (Australia), Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Americas) and Mental Health First Aid (globally).

Spot the signs

We have a range of globally accredited mental health programs, including an Employee Assistance Program in every country we operate and train our people in to help identify signs of poor mental health and direct people to the right assistance.

We’re proud to say more than 1,500 of our employees have completed a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program and approximately 393 leaders in a MHFA Leaders’ program so far.

Through our Global Minimum Requirements (GMRs), we address mental health and fatigue as key control risks associated with our operations.

Act

Awareness and education encourage workplace conversations. We host a range of  tool box talks, face-to-face programs with a focus on mindfulness, resilience and sleep workshops that assist in creating a mentally healthy workplace.

If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms you think may be a sign of mental illness, please contact your local doctor, counsellor or a support organisation and seek out help.
