Major milestone as The Wilderly tops out
- 24 Jun 2025
Two new residential buildings at Elephant Park have officially topped out, marking a key milestone for one of London’s most ambitious regeneration projects. Delivered in a joint venture by Lendlease alongside the Japanese developer, Daiwa House, the Wilderly buildings will provide a total of 259 premium apartments; with standout amenities including a communal SkyLounge, elevated gardens and an on-site gym.
Wilderly is Daiwa House’s first residential project in the UK, and the £250m scheme combines Lendlease’s expertise in creating vibrant urban neighbourhoods with Daiwa House’s 60-year legacy in sustainable development. Construction is being carried out by Bovis who’ve played a fundamental role in the successful delivery of Elephant Park, leading the construction of every phase of the development.
A topping out ceremony was attended by senior representatives from Lendlease, Daiwa House, Southwark Council and Bovis.
Angela Brennan, Executive Development Director at Lendlease, said: “This is a significant moment for everyone who’s been part of this journey. The Wilderly reflects the strength of our partnership with Daiwa House and our shared commitment to delivering well-designed, sustainable homes.
“This project is rooted in collaboration — with the council, our partners, and the local community — and it shows what long-term regeneration can look like when there’s genuine alignment. Elephant Park has become a thriving part of London, and it’s been a privilege to see that vision come to life.”
The announcement builds on a strong working relationship between Lendlease and Daiwa House. They have already partnered on the delivery of a 41-storey mixed use building in Manhattan; and are also working on a build-to-rent apartment development in Melbourne.
Taketo Itami, Managing Director for Daiwa House UK Limited, said: “The topping out of The Wilderly marks an important step in our collaboration with Lendlease. This project embodies a shared approach between Daiwa House and Lendlease, which prioritises quality, sustainability and long-term value. We are hopeful that The Wilderly will make a positive and lasting contribution to residents and the wider community.”
Lendlease has been working in partnership with Southwark Council to deliver Elephant Park, a £2.5bn transformation project in Elephant and Castle, for over a decade. Once complete the scheme will deliver around 3,200 new homes, more than 50 shops, cafés and restaurants, and a mix of flexible workspaces. The neighbourhood has been shaped by its community, reflecting the character of its surroundings and the creative spirit of South London.
James Pearce, Managing Director Private Sector & London at Bovis, said: “The Wilderly is the final residential plot at Elephant Park and will provide high-quality living in one of London’s most dynamic neighbourhoods. Its success is built on more than a decade of collaboration with Lendlease, our dedicated supply chain, and the teams who have worked tirelessly to shape this project. Through strong partnerships and a shared commitment to excellence, we have delivered a project that sets a new benchmark for sustainable urban regeneration.”
