
Lendlease construction signs contracts to deliver improvements to the UK Defence estate

Lendlease has signed on the dotted line on contracts for the delivery of improvements to the United Kingdom’s Defence estate that will enhance the quality of life for Army personnel.
The contracts include the mostly new-build construction of live, work and train facilities on-site at Imjin Barracks near Gloucester and two other construction projects across the Midlands and Wales. Altogether the contracts, which have been procured under the Defence Estate Optimisation (DEO) Army Programme by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), are worth up to an estimated £450m.
All of the works will aim to improve the lived experience of Army personnel and are focussed on delivering a better structured, modern and more sustainable defence estate.

Works to be carried out for the Army and DIO are:
- Imjin Barracks – a new-build construction of living, working and training facilities on-site comprising of single living accommodation blocks, new garaging and workshops, additional administration buildings and improved gym facilities.
- St David’s Barracks, Bicester – new build and refurbishment of living, working and training facilities on-site, which comprise an extension to existing mess blocks, enhancement to existing road infrastructure and a new build sports hall and gym facilities.
- Beacon Barracks – new build and refurbishment of living, working and training facilities again comprising of new build single living accommodation, new build and refurbishment of existing administration buildings, refurbishment of workshop facilities and a new multi-use games area.
The works were awarded through the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Alliance Contract, which is designed to facilitate long-term relationships built on working together through best practice and shared ideals of collaboration.
Major General Richard Clements CBE, Director of Army Basing and Infrastructure and Senior Responsible Owner of the DEO Army Programme said: “We are making substantial investment in new accommodation and facilities to improve the quality of life for our people and deliver better environments in which to live, work and train. These major infrastructure projects will make a significant and enduring contribution to supporting military capability, modernising the Army estate and making it more sustainable, whilst delivering value for money for Defence.”
DIO Senior Programme Manager, Hazel Ide, said: “We are extremely pleased to award these contracts to Lendlease. Providing high quality facilities for our Armed Forces to live, work and to train in is our priority and we look forward to working with our suppliers and Army colleagues to achieve this.”
