Lendlease Retirement Living leads global real estate sustainability ranking

  • 17 Dec 2019
GRESB, the global Real Estate Assessment, is the environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmark for real estate assets.

The 2019 rankings are based on analysis of environment, social and governance data from over 1,000 property companies, real estate investment trusts (REITs), funds, and developers.

This result reflects Lendlease’s focus on responsible property investment, management and governance, environmental performance, risk management and stakeholder engagement.

Quotes attributable to Tony Randello, Managing Director Retirement Living, Lendlease

“Lendlease operates one of the largest Retirement Living businesses in Australia, with more than 70 villages catering to older people. Achieving first place in the GRESB rankings in the Senior Homes category reflects our commitment to creating great places that deliver environmental and social value, alongside their financial value.

“We could not have achieved these excellent results without the support of our approximately 17,000 residents, who helped us reduce our energy, gas and water consumption over the past 12 months.”

The GRESB ranking recognised the following efficiencies Lendlease’s Australian Retirement Living villages achieved:
  • In 2018, Lendlease villages reduced energy consumption by 5.1 percent compared to 2017. This is equivalent to powering 252 average Australian homes .
  • Reduced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 4.9 percent in 2018 compared to 2017.
  • Reduced water consumption by 4.2 percent in 2018 compared to 2017 – the equivalent of filling 19 Olympic size swimming pools .
  • The introduction of water loggers has given village management access to real-time data and insights into water consumption. This enabled villages to identify leaks and change practices that allowed villages to save approximately 28,000 kL and $82,000 in 2018.
