Lendlease (US) Community Fund and Operation Shower® host baby shower for 36 Fort Hood families
Fort Hood, TX (December 16, 2020) – Today, Lendlease (US) Community Fund and Operation Shower® hosted a virtual baby shower honoring 36 Fort Hood moms and moms-to-be, as part of Lendlease’s ongoing partnership with the non-profit organization, which hosts group baby showers for families of active duty and deployed service members across the country.
As a testament to its longstanding commitment to support military families, each year Lendlease (US) Community Fund partners with Operation Shower to host a baby shower for military moms-to-be at one of Lendlease’s military communities. An annual sponsor since 2011, Lendlease (US) Community Fund has donated more than $200,000 to Operation Shower to provide military families with much needed support and celebration.
Operation Shower pivoted to a virtual baby shower this year, delivering “showers in a box,” filled with decorations, treats and high-quality gifts to enjoy during and beyond the event. This year, Lendlease donated $27,000 to provide these gifts for the moms and moms-to-be, who live at Fort Hood Family Housing, Lendlease’s privatized military housing community on Fort Hood. Beyond the well-deserved gifts, the virtual baby shower provides expecting mothers with the opportunity to connect with one another and share their experiences as military parents.
“For military moms who are expecting a baby and whose spouses or partners are deployed or soon to be deployed, the impending arrival of a child can be both exciting and stressful in the best of circumstances. Compounding these challenges are the isolation and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus, which puts expectant moms at a disproportionate risk. For this reason, we felt it was especially important to continue our tradition of showering these moms in a safe manner to let them know how much we appreciate everything they do on behalf of our country,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey.
“The past year has been challenging for all families, let alone those that sacrifice every day to serve our country,” said Chris Albus, project director for Fort Hood Family Housing. “As such, our longstanding commitment to honoring growing military families with Operation Shower was particularly meaningful in 2020, and we look forward to our continued partnership with the organization as a way of continuing to invest in making our communities a place where military families can live, work and thrive.”
In addition to Operation Shower, the Lendlease (US) Community Fund supports a variety of other causes throughout the year, including the BlueStar Scholarship program, K9s for Warriors and Operation Stand Down Tennessee.
