Lendlease boots on ground at North Sydney’s transformative Victoria Cross development

  • 17 Feb 2021

Approved under the NSW Government’s Planning System Acceleration Program in June 2020, the $1.2 billion over station development above the metro station’s southern entrance will feature a 42-storey tower boasting 56,000 square metres of high-tech, premium office space, along with new dining and retail-activated public laneways and outdoor green spaces.

Designed to be North Sydney’s most connected and sustainable workplace, the new commercial building will feature a range of expertly designed spaces to promote flexibility, innovation and collaboration. An expansive lobby with multipurpose hub space will facilitate community connection, while outdoor balconies and green or ‘biophilic’ spaces will promote health and wellbeing.

Victoria Cross reflects the development of several Sydney Metro stations into integrated transport hubs that combine retail and commercial elements, ultimately boosting connectivity and livability.

Construction is expected to support approximately 2,800 on site jobs over the life of the project, prompting a flow on effect throughout the economy, particularly in manufacturing, building design and engineering. The three-year construction project is expected to conclude in 2024.

The commencement of construction follows the completion of tunneling and excavation at Victoria Cross in December 2020 and the laying of the first tracks of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest line in January.

Quotes attributed to North Sydney Lord Mayor, Jilly Gibson:

“With new premium integrated developments such as Victoria Cross, North Sydney is now emerging as the commercial centre of choice for many national and international companies.

“The Victoria Cross development will improve connections both to the North Sydney CBD and within the North Sydney CBD, which is an excellent urban design outcome and I look forward to seeing it take shape.”

Quotes attributed to Jeheon Son, Head of Development NSW & Head of Integrated Transport Development:

“Around the world, people are increasingly demanding workplaces that are stitched into their local communities – including great links to transport as well as outstanding sustainability and digital credentials. That’s exactly what this project will be.

“Just six months after the accelerated approval of our $1.2 billion over station development, it’s great to see Lendlease boots on the ground as we bring the transport, commercial and lifestyle elements of the precinct to life.

“Lendlease shares the vision of our government partners to create both economic activity as well exceptional public spaces for everyone’s enjoyment – Victoria Cross is another example of what these partnerships can deliver.”
