National Apartment Association names Fort Hood Family Housing 'Military Community of the Year'

  • 28 Jun 2021
Lendlease (ASX: LLC) today announced that Fort Hood Family Housing on Fort Hood, Texas, one of its privatized military housing communities, has won the National Apartment Association’s (NAA) 2021 Excellence Award in the Military Community of the Year category. The installation was selected as the winner based on a rigorous and competitive submission. Evaluation was based on a number of factors, including community's service to residents, impact on the local community, unique resident retention strategies and financial performance.

“America’s military families make sacrifices every day for the sake of our country. Lendlease aims to provide these well-deserving families with homes and communities where they can live, work and thrive,” said Lendlease Communities Managing Director Carolyn Tregarthen. “This recognition from NAA is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team at Fort Hood Family Housing, especially throughout all of the challenges the past year has presented.”

Throughout the pandemic, Fort Hood Family Housing worked to keep residents safe and engaged while socially distant. The team hosted a variety of virtual and outdoor events such as baby showers, food drives and holiday celebrations to keep spirits up and maintain a strong sense of community at a time when many Americans felt more isolated than ever. Fort Hood Family Housing also created a twelve-member Resident Advisory Board (RAB), with members selected by their peers to represent the community. The RAB program was designed to encourage residents to engage in their community and positively affect the quality of life for families at Fort Hood Family Housing. Through the RAB, resident representatives have an opportunity to share their ideas and suggestions, express their concerns, and work with their property management team to develop solutions. Additionally, Lendlease fully implemented the Tenant Bill of Rights at Fort Hood Family housing and across all of its Army properties, ensuring tenants’ needs are met.

“Receiving this award is a tremendous honor and I am incredibly proud of the entire Fort Hood Family Housing team for their continued commitment to improving the lives of our service members and families” said Chris Albus, Fort Hood Family Housing Project Director. “The pandemic presented new challenges that required flexibility and resilience, both of which our team demonstrated day in and day out.”

Among the finalists for this year’s prestigious award was another of Lendlease’s privatized military housing communities, Tierra Vista Communities, located in Colorado Springs, Colo. and San Pedro, Calif. In addition to this year’s recognition, in 2016, Tierra Vista Communities was named NAA’s Community of the Year, and the Best Community in the Military Housing Specialty category; and in 2015, Fort Hood Family Housing was named a NAA Paragon Award winner in the specialty-military category.
