70 years on – Lendlease celebrates its sustainability foundations and future
- 4 Jul 2021
The first contract to build the Cooma homes was signed between Dusseldorp and Sir William Hudson – Commissioner of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Authority and grandfather of Australia’s current Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, the Hon. Angus Taylor MP.
Since then, Lendlease has had a permanent presence in Canberra, building more than 150 Projects in every town centre in the Australian Capital Territory. This wide range of projects have helped shape the region’s history and landscape including:
- AMP Building, the first high rise in Canberra
- Royal Australian Mint built for the new decimal currency
- Monaro Mall, Australia’s first enclosed shopping mall
- Woden Plaza, Canberra’s first retail town centre
- Australian Defence headquarters – Russell Offices
- National Museum of Australia
- Australian Academy of Science
- Kambri at Australian National University.
Today, Dusseldorp’s commitment to sustainability lives on with the recent launch of Lendlease’s Mission Zero campaign, which aims to help limit global warming by being a 1.5°C aligned company. As part of the 2021 global Mission Zero campaign, Lendlease has set two main milestones:
- Achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2025 for Scope 1 emissions produced directly from the fuels we burn and Scope 2 emissions from the power we consume.
- Achieving absolute zero carbon emissions by 2040 by eliminating all emissions, including Scope 3 emissions generated indirectly from our activities and the materials we procure, without the use of offsets.
“We are proud of Snowy’s long and exceptional history of vision, innovation and nation-building expertise.
“From those early days in Cooma we have come a long way and our Snowy 2.0 project is the next exciting chapter in the Snowy Scheme’s history.”
