Lendlease unveils its first Community Grant Asia to help broaden support for social enterprises and community organisations

  • 12 Oct 2021
These efforts are in line with Lendlease’s Sustainability Framework and target of creating A$250 million of social value by 2025.

Lendlease is strengthening its support for community organisations and social enterprises in Singapore and Malaysia, through the launch of the Lendlease Foundation Community Grant Asia and its 26th annual Community Day this year.

Lendlease is focused on creating long-term positive change through shared value partnerships with organisations such as social enterprises, whose missions are aligned with one or more of Lendlease Foundation’s social impact areas. The areas are: Community Inclusion; Mental Health for All People; Skilling, Training, Jobs & Employment; Housing & Homelessness; and, Climate Change & Action.

Launch of the Lendlease Foundation Community Grant Asia

For the first time, Lendlease Foundation will be launching community grants to support community development and climate change programmes in Singapore and Malaysia. Six organisations will be selected in each country and awarded S$10,000 each (RM10,000 each for organisations in Malaysia) to support their mission and create positive social impact for the community.

Applications are open to organisations such as local charities, social enterprises and community/non-governmental organisations in Singapore and Malaysia.

Grant applications will open from 18 October 2021 till 29 November 2021, and awardees will be announced in January 2022.

Michael Long, Head of Sustainability, Asia, Lendlease said: “As part of our commitment to create places where communities thrive, it is important that we listen to and support those community needs. We want to create lasting shared value partnerships that focus on building resilience through lowering barriers to employment, skilling and training as well as increasing support for community mental health and wellbeing. It is genuinely inspiring for all involved to see community-led initiatives come to life and we feel privileged to be able to support these.”

Community Day 2021

To further support local community groups and social enterprises, Lendlease is organising a range of virtual activities across Asia through the month of October for Community Day 2021. In Singapore, the 26th edition of the annual event will raise funds for Project Dignity, a social enterprise that aims to empower unemployed adults with special needs.

Lendlease Global Commercial Trust Management, the manager of Lendlease Global Commercial REIT, has recently committed a two-year shared value partnership with Project Dignity through Lendlease Foundation to provide sponsored training for the differently-abled in Singapore and place them with employment partners within the F&B, hospitality and retail sectors.

Through this partnership, Lendlease aims to create lasting positive change by increasing the employability of differently-abled persons in Singapore.

Koh Seng Choon, Executive Director and Founder, Project Dignity said, “We focused on the abilities, not the disabilities, which is the approach that allows Project Dignity to reach out to train and place our differently-abled persons both in Singapore and Hong Kong. We are blessed and thankful to Lendlease for the support and sponsorship.”

As part of Community Day, volunteers from Lendlease can contribute culinary creations to an e-cookbook entitled "Our Love, with Food". The e-cookbook will feature 60 recipes from Lendlease volunteers in Asia and will be on sale to the public. Lendlease is also supporting Dignity Mama, a second-hand bookstore run by Project Dignity beneficiaries, by donating children’s books. All proceeds from the sales will go towards Project Dignity’s operations.

Another activity is the Virtual Dignity Run to support workplace inclusivity for the differently-abled. The top 20 runners and two of their family members will be rewarded with participation in Project Dignity's Cook, Bake & Makan Experience, where participants will learn how to prepare delicious hawker food from the staff of Dignity Kitchen—Asia’s first Community Food Court managed by people with disabilities.
