Lendlease (US) Community Fund raises more than $300,000 for Military Families and Veterans
- 11 Oct 2021
With more than $300,000 raised to benefit military outreach organizations and programming that support U.S. military, military families, and veterans, the Lendlease (US) Community Fund (LLCF) held the 8th Annual 18 FORE MILITARY FAMILIES Golf Tournament on October 12th at The Governor’s Club in Brentwood, TN.
In addition to raising funds for LLCF’s BlueStar Scholarships program, the tournament supported nonprofits including Boot Campaign, K9s For Warriors, Operation Stand Down Tennessee, and Operation Shower, among others. Players from local, regional, and national corporations participated including title sponsor Bank of America; platinum sponsors Ameresco, Bureau Veritas, Guggenheim, and WinnResidential; and gold sponsors Lincoln Land Services LLC and Mainscape.
BlueStar Scholarship recipient, Shayla Quackenbush, a daughter of a 22-year Marine Corps veteran, joined us during the tournament to share her experience as a graduate in the program. Shayla is a previous resident of Atlantic Marine Corps Communities, a Lendlease military housing community at Camp Lejeune, NC.
“I was extremely fortunate to have been told about BlueStar,” said Shayla. “Over my nine semesters studying at NC State University, I was awarded $25,000 towards my education. This was an overwhelmingly amazing gift that gave me the chance to study Animal Science and Spanish full time without having to worry about school loans.”
With help from the BlueStar Scholarship program, Shayla is now able to apply for Veterinary school where she hopes to go on to practice small and exotic animal medicine.
“Lendlease and the Department of Defense work closely together with a unified goal to provide safe and quality homes in communities where military families can live, work, and thrive,” said Phillip Carpenter, LLCF Chairman of the Board. “We appreciate the constant sacrifices that our service members and their families make and are honored to give back to them. This year marks eight years of hosting our golf tournament, and I am proud to say we have successfully given back over $2 million. Thank you to all who have contributed to the tournament and continue to do so year after year. Our efforts wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors and dedicated Lendlease volunteers.”
LLCF is a nonprofit organization that focuses its efforts on supporting the military men and women who live in homes and neighborhoods Lendlease created, as well as supporting the communities where its employees work and live. Through the LLCF, Lendlease supports community growth and development by funding projects that address community challenges in the areas of housing, education, health, economic development, and environmental sustainability and create or support programming aimed at improving the quality of life for military families who sacrifice so much for us.
