New Buraga Gul Skilling & Employment Hub opens to help Liverpool locals gain employment

  • 27 Mar 2022
Western Sydney’s new Buraga Gul Skilling & Employment Hub is open for business, set within the $790 million redeveloped Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP).
Lendlease Building, in partnership with Health Infrastructure and South Western Sydney Local Health District, will deliver a significant upgrade of patient care to the LHAP, with works already underway.

In addition to the redevelopment, Lendlease, Health Infrastructure and South Western Sydney Local Health District have collaborated to deliver the Buraga Gul Skilling & Employment Hub, in partnership with key skilling and employment providers TAFE NSW and Aboriginal Employment Strategy.

Buraga Gul, meaning ‘rise above’ in Darug language, embodies the purpose of the hub, which will offer a range of practical skilling and nationally-recognised training programs to enhance employment prospects for local residents and meet the specific skills needs of the local workforce.

In further collaboration with Liverpool City Council and Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council, the Buraga Gul Skilling & Employment Hub will provide access to programs including:
  • Construction training and skills development to support both the LHAP project workforce and local construction industry more widely.
  • Try a trade programs and infrastructure career promotion.
  • ‘Rise Above’ – a four-week program with a focus on warehousing, cleaning, landscaping, business administration and hospitality that ends with an employer connection day.
  • Pre-employment courses in health connected to the Liverpool Hospital traineeship program with job guarantee outcomes.
The Buraga Gul Skilling & Employment Hub will also help increase the representation of young people, apprentices, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and women in trades across a number of industries and maximise job outcomes by connecting participants with local service providers and their networks of job seekers.

For more information or to register your interest, please email or visit the Hub at 43 Forbes Street, Liverpool.

“We’re targeting to induct over 7,000 workers on the Liverpool Hospital project and achieve a 75 per cent employment outcome from the local region over the next five years.

“The hub will not only help support local jobseekers but will also drive a lasting positive change in the wider community and leave a meaningful legacy once the project is completed in 2026.”
