As safety is our first priority, the ferry landing was immediately closed for assessment and the piles were removed for a thorough inspection. Since that time, Lendlease has been working closely with marine engineers to evaluate the damaged piles. The safety of ferry commuters and workers and the long-term sustainability of the pier is of the utmost importance; therefore, it has been determined that all four piles need to be replaced.
We are moving through several concurrent processes to rebuild the landing and to ensure the replacement is safe and resilient. We also appreciate that this is a disruption for commuters and we, along with our partners New York City Economic Development Corporation and Hornblower, are committed to the most efficient timeline possible to complete the work and restore ferry service.
We will know more about timing in the coming weeks, and anticipate that the landing will be closed for, at a minimum, several months. We will continue to share updates transparently and we appreciate the public’s patience as we rebuild the landing responsibly.
