Lendlease Construction appointed to Ministry of Defence strategic alliance

  • 11 May 2023
Lendlease Europe’s Construction business has confirmed it has been awarded a place on the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Alliance Contract, which will carry out improvements to the defence estate worth more than £5.1bn over the next decade.

The works are focussed on delivering a better structured, modern and more sustainable estate that more effectively supports military capability; and aims to enhance the lived experience of military personnel. At the heart of the programme is a significant construction and refurbishment programme for both single living and service family accommodation as well as a range of operational, educational and technical facilities which span the MoD’s UK estate.

The Strategic Alliance Contract will facilitate long-term relationships across the programme built on working together through best practise and shared ideals of collaboration. The contract was signed by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and Lendlease has been appointed to deliver a major project as well as a regional package of work. The major package that Lendlease has been appointed to is construction of Imjin Barracks near Gloucester, which includes the mostly new-build construction of live, work and train facilities on-site. And the regional package will see Lendlease work on projects across the Midlands and Wales. Together the two packages are worth up to an estimated £500m.

Quote attributable to Simon Gorski, Managing Director for Lendlease Construction: “This alliance builds on our long partnership with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and helps secure a robust pipeline of work for our UK Regions team. These projects give us the opportunity to deliver on the aspirations of the Government Construction Playbook, putting collaboration at the centre of everything we do to drive innovation and achieve the highest quality results. We’re looking forward to working with an organisation whose values align so closely with our own.”

Quote attributable to Sherin Aminossehe, Director of Infrastructure for MoD: “The Strategic Alliance Contract for the Defence Estate Optimisation Portfolio will allow us to capitalise on the wealth of knowledge within the construction industry and harness that expertise in a way we’ve not previously done. The contract will ensure we can deliver the right buildings and infrastructure for Defence that will enable our military capability and create the right environment for our people to train, work and live in. We will be delivering at pace and start to see the benefits straight away within projects being mobilised this year.

“This important milestone marks the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication by the Defence Estate Optimisation team and I offer my congratulations to them as well as to the successful contractors who we look forward to working with in delivering our shared vision.”
