Central Park Tower
Lendlease provided construction management services for this new 1.2 million square foot, 1,550 foot tall mixed use building consisting of 137 (marketing) floors. The first seven floors house the new flagship store for Nordstrom, with the tower floors containing 179 residential condominiums. The building is the tallest residential building in the world (at the time of completion).
Project vision
This project site sits on 40,000 square feet of land and required the demolition of five existing buildings.
The building, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, features a 30 foot cantilever over the adjacent property at 300 feet above street level. Additionally, the Nordstrom Façade, designed by James Carpenter Design, displays floor to ceiling glass in a curved pattern. The buildings foundation consists of spread footings. Moreover, the superstructure is made of reinforced concrete, with the external skin clad in curtain wall. The roof is made of modified bitumen.
The structure contains ten elevators, four of which operate at speeds of 2,000 feet per minute. The buildings interior finishes include stone, wood floors, and millwork. The fully sprinklered building's HVAC contains heat pumps and hot water radiations.
Located on one of the busiest cross town streets in New York City, many precautions have been taken in order to maintain safety. Additionally, the glass façade was an existing historic landmark remaining from the demolished building that stood before, requiring extra care.
