City College of San Francisco
Located in San Francisco's historic Chinatown and North Beach District, the new two-building City College of San Francisco campus consists of 193,000 square feet.
Project outcome
The main building houses faculty offices, a library and a double-height student lounge, along with traditional classrooms, chemistry/biology laboratories and apparel design space on a tight, 100'x120' site. A multi-purpose auditorium and the College's culinary institute are located in the annex building.
The exterior facade of the main building incorporates glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels with a curtainwall system with exterior louvers. A portion of the facade also features an etched Chinese landscape mural using ceramic frit glazing. Both buildings have detailed terrazzo floors and independent high-performance MEP systems.
The concrete structure of the main building has poured in place sub-grade footers and grade beams, slab on grade, elevated concrete slabs with concrete columns and shear walls, and a structural steel supported roof.
The project architect and the Lendlease team worked closely with the Chinatown and North Beach community from the design stage. The aesthetics and detailing of the building are a direct result of community collaboration and have won wide-spread community support.
This project achieved LEED-NC Gold rating.
